In-firms are almost here! Recruit can bring a whirlwind of emotions, from excitement about the future to understandable nerves. Ahead of the week, some of our articling students have shared their best tips for navigating in-firm week and making the most of the experience.

How to prepare

Sarah Farb (Articling Student, 2025 – 2026) suggests reflecting and noting down the highlights of your interviews after you come out of an interview. “This little practice will not only help keep your memories of each firm straight but it will also give you fun tidbits to reference in your thank you emails!”

Jenna Principe (Articling Student, 2025 – 2026) made cue cards to practice answering interview questions on a walk or on the subway. “It’s easy to forget all the amazing things you’ve done – let your experiences shine!”

Laxsega Sivaloganathan (Articling Student 2025 – 2026) recommends having a cheat sheet with key details like the firm name, the interviewers’ names, a few reasons why you chose to interview at the firm and your questions. “I would review this sheet as I was walking to my next interview, and it was a great way to keep calm.”

Asking Questions/ Conversation Topics

Serayah Jamadar (Articling Student, 2025 – 2026) shares “one of the things that stood out to me the most about my interview with Goodmans is how conversational it was! Everyone who interviewed me was interested in getting to know me beyond what was on my resume. I left each room feeling like who I was as a person in addition to my experiences and accomplishments was valued.”

Ask your interviewers questions about their practice, how they developed it, how they engage students in their work, and their interests outside of the office as well!

General Tips

Hannah Lee (Articling Student, 2025 – 2026) reminds everyone “not to stress to much about trying to memorize answers to questions. While it is important to prepare, embrace your authenticity! Trust yourself in the moment and your responses will come across as much more genuine and natural.”

Chloe Bechard (Articling Student, 2025-2026) wants students to, “keep in mind that firms aren’t just picking you – you’re also choosing where to begin your legal career. As crazy as the week can get, take a beat to breathe and check in with yourself, even for a second, it’ll help you make the choice that’s right for you.”

Most importantly, remind yourself that your hard work has led, you to this position – and you deserve to be here! Relax, have fun, and we are so excited to meet you all next week!
